How You Died

‘A’ and ‘B’ are childhood friends, who are catching up after ten years. ‘A’ was a successful lawyer and ‘B’ was a famous children’s presenter. There’s only one thing getting in their way… ‘B’ has been dead for ten years.

Ten years on. Technology is flourishing and the world has developed holograms to represent those that have passed. ‘A’ can finally get the closure that will allow them to live. Yet, what begins as a night of nostalgia and reconciliation unearths discussions of power, lies and secrets.

What Reviewers Are Saying about How You Died

“a brilliantly crafted piece of theatre. It is made perfectly for fringe; a cast of two, two chairs and a table, a simple what if? Black Mirror-style premise that keeps us guessing but is self-contained within fifty minutes. The inspiration from the world of the screen continues in the visual aesthetic of the play, which rather than occurring as a real-time scene is split up by physical theatre montages showcasing the friendship of the two characters before B’s death"

— Lost in Theatreland (*****)

"Neat interludes between scenes see the pair acting out brief sketches of the old friends, laughing, playing, dancing together to the pop songs of their shared past. The two actors – Lois Baglin and Tom Gould-Scott – are perfectly matched, their relationship volatile. There is so much warmth between them, so much familiarity. But painful emotions are evidently still raw. Laughter can turn to anger in a moment. It’s a tightly structured piece, cleverly concealing its climax."

— The Reviews Hub (****)

"It is a very tidy production, all the elements pulling together to make for a lively hour of theatre with a serious theme, notwithstanding the witty script and the playful performances. That’s quite a trick to pull off. The Dark Skies Ensemble manage it with considerable ease."
